klido.sk is an online intermediary for health insurance for foreigners in Slovakia, operated by quadur s.r.o., an NBS-registered insurance intermediary (#293002). You arrange Union insurance fully online, including the signature, in Slovak, English, Ukrainian, Spanish or Russian. Simple costs €34 for 1 month, €193 for 6 months or €327 for a full year, Safety from €569.40 a year, and the insurance confirmation is accepted by the Slovak Foreign Police for residence applications.

For foreigners who cannot yet join the Slovak public health insurance system. Most often that means temporary residence for study, family reunification or the start of a business, until a public insurer registers you. If you work on an employment contract for an employer based in Slovakia, your employer normally registers you with public health insurance. Not sure? Write to us and we will check your situation.

klido arranges commercial health insurance for foreigners that is accepted by the Slovak Foreign Police (cudzinecká polícia) for residence-permit applications, Simple as well as Safety. The law asks only for a confirmation that you are health insured in Slovakia or that your medical costs there are insured, and sets no minimum cover (Act No. 404/2011, §123), so urgent-care insurance is enough. If you are told you need “comprehensive” insurance, the law does not ask for it: the police accept Simple (€327 a year) just as they accept Safety. The permit decision itself always rests with the police.

Once the contract is concluded, Union e-mails you the payment instructions; a card payment through the link in that e-mail goes through at once. Once you pay the premium, Union sends you by e-mail the insurance confirmation that the Foreign Police accepts for your residence application. Your policy documents are also in your account on klido.sk.

Slovak law requires every foreigner with a residence permit to take out health insurance no later than 3 working days after collecting the residence card, and to prove it if the police check (Act No. 404/2011, §111(1)(d)). If your temporary residence is for business, a special activity, research and development or family reunification, or you are a long-term resident of another EU country, you must also hand proof of insurance to the Foreign Police within 30 days of collecting the card (§32(9)); if you are already insured when you apply, you can attach it to the application instead. With klido you choose the start date yourself.

Simple costs the same for everyone aged 6 to 59: €34 for 1 month, €100 for 3 months, €193 for 6 months, €327 for 12 months and €656 for 24 months, paid once. A full year works out best, at just €27.25 a month. A year for a child costs €360 at ages 3 to 5 and €562 at ages 1 and 2; from age 60 Union sets the price after a short health questionnaire. Simple covers emergency care and accidents. Safety starts from €569.40 a year, about €1.56 a day (adds check-ups and care for conditions that start during the insurance); its final price is set after a short health questionnaire.

Simple covers urgent and acute care plus accidents and needs no health questionnaire (unless you are 60 or older). Safety adds preventive check-ups, rehabilitation and ongoing care for conditions that start during the insurance, and requires a short health questionnaire.

Illnesses and injuries that began before the insurance was concluded are not covered. With Safety (and for anyone aged 60 or older) you fill in a short health questionnaire and Union decides: it insures you without restrictions, with a specific condition excluded, or it postpones or declines the insurance. We always show you an exclusion first, and the contract is concluded only with your consent. Everything else that is not covered is listed on the plan comparison page.

You choose the start date yourself, today at the earliest. Simple is taken out for whole months, Safety for 2 months to 2 years. The insurance only comes into existence once the premium is paid by the due date. If it is not paid in time, the insurance does not come into existence.

The whole process is online and takes about 5 minutes for Simple, including the digital signature - no office visit and no paperwork.

Yes. You can withdraw from a contract concluded at a distance within 14 days of concluding it, without giving a reason. The withdrawal goes to the insurer, Union, for example through its online form.
