The short answer
Simple, Union poisťovňa's urgent-care plan, does not cover pregnancy or childbirth. Standard Safety covers only the examination that confirms the pregnancy. For pregnancy and childbirth Union has a separate pregnancy type of Safety, which it agrees after assessing your health questionnaire. For the residence permit itself any of these plans is enough: the Foreign Police accepts both Simple and Safety.
What each plan covers in pregnancy
Standard Safety also pays for a spontaneous miscarriage up to week 10, which Union treats as urgent care. The pregnancy cover applies to care provided in Slovakia.
The pregnancy type is in Union's terms for Safety (VPP ZPC/0720, special provisions, type 7 "Tehotenské poistenie"), and its €17,000 limit is in Union's product information document.
How to get the pregnancy type
- ·It is not in the online calculator. Union decides from your health questionnaire whether it offers it, and at what price.
- ·Write to us at info@klido.sk before applying: the week of pregnancy, the start date you need and your residence purpose. We check with Union what it can offer you.
- ·Ask early. Union assesses the questionnaire first, and you have to be insured no later than 3 working days after collecting your residence card (Act No. 404/2011, §111(1)(d)).
If you need the confirmation for the police within days, tell us: Simple can start today, but it will not pay for childbirth.
Moving to your husband or wife in Slovakia
On temporary residence for family reunification you are not in the Slovak public health insurance, unless you are employed by an employer based in Slovakia or self-employed. You need commercial insurance no later than 3 working days after collecting the residence card, and the proof goes to the Foreign Police within 30 days (§32(9)). If you are already insured when you apply, you can attach it to the application.
Planning a pregnancy
A pregnancy that starts while you have Simple or standard Safety is not covered beyond what the table shows. If you are planning one, write to us before you choose a plan.
